Villa Polyanna

General Description

Villa Polyanna is an exceptionally well planned and well equipped villa. It is located on a tranquil hillside 7 km. west of Chania, with stunning 270 degree views to the sea as well as towards the beautiful white mountains. It is located just outside the traditional Greek village of Pano Stalos, which is just south of the popular seaside resorts of Aghia Marina and Platanias with beaches and plenty of restaurants only 5 minutes away by car. The villa has a magnificent large garden which has recently been planted with an abundance of trees, cactuses and shrubs. The hillsides around the villa are covered in olive trees and provides great opportunities for walks. The village boasts a couple of excellent tavernas which are very popular with locals and tourists alike and by the main road there is a mini market for everyday provisions.

Villa Polyanna was completely re-furbished, re-decorated and upgraded a couple of years ago and now boasts 3 bedrooms, one of which has a romantic 4 poster bed, a completely re-fitted and comprehensively equipped kitchen, modern bathrooms and extensive gardens all around the villa incorporating several different sitting and dining areas. The villa also benefits from wi-fi internet access indoors and out, thanks to a booster wifi amplifier providing internet access in the pool area.

Villa Polyanna is a great example of a luxury villa near Chania, Crete and provides perfect accommodation for a family holiday, for 2 couples holidaying together or for a single couple who can take advantage of the single couples discount at this villa (except July and August).

Ground Floor

The open plan ground floor comprises the very well equipped kitchen with plenty of pots, pans and crockery to enable you to easily cater for yourselves. There is an adjoining dining area and comfortable lounge. The focal point in the lounge is the beautiful, traditionally styled fireplace with a big comfortable sofa and a wide range of entertainment facilities including a 48 inch TV a 6 ch. home cinema system and separate high quality hi-fi system. There is a chrome cast connected to the TV as well as to the stereo system and the broadband connection supports your eg Netflix subscription (see the features tab for kitchen equipment and other facilities). 

Also on the ground floor is a handy cloakroom with WC and shower.

First Floor

The 3 bedrooms are all on the first floor, these are two doubles and a small single. The principal bedroom with en-suite shower room, is furnished with a lovely 4 poster bed. The second bedroom is a twin, adjacent to the family bathroom which has a corner bath with jacuzzi and shower attachment. The 3rd bedroom is a small but comfortable single with its own storage facilities. Both the principal and the twin bedrooms have balconies overlooking the private gardens and /or pool area.

External Areas

The private pool is surrounded by extensive sun terraces, well equipped with quality sun loungers and outdoor teak furniture; inviting you to spend time outside soaking up the magnificent views and enjoying the garden which is a particular feature at this villa.

The garden has been extensively re-planted in the mediterranean style with roses and fruit trees including lemon, lime, almond, mandarin, nectarine, peach, fig, apricot and avocado. There is also a separate cactus garden with 25 + different species as well as 6 varieties of palm trees. A herb/chilli garden is provided for your personal cooking.

The stylish terrace areas are furnished with plenty of sun loungers for relaxation or soaking up the sun and teak tables and chairs for al fresco dining, either in the sun or under the shaded, purpose built pergola next to the BBQ and outdoor kitchen. There is also a large, outdoor, corner sofa right outside the main living area which is in a shady spot and is perfect for enjoying your afternoon tea or early evening drinks.

There is car parking adjacent to the villa but as the driveway is quite steep, on first arrival, many guests prefer to leave their car in the car parking area above the villa. The owners have supplied some tips about parking next to the villa, in the information book which you will find inside the property.

Please note: the garden is extensive; it stretches all the way down to the road leading from the village to the villa. The owners have made a walkable but rough track through the garden, to provide a short cut to the village which shortens the walk to approx 500/600 metres instead of the 2 kms journey via the road.

Internet Access

Internet access at this villa is supplied by means of a fixed telephone line giving Broadband wifi both indoors and out as described above (including chrome cast support) for both the TV nd hi-fi stereo system.

General

Chania airport ­- 35 mins drive. Heraklion airport - 2 hrs 10 mins drive.

Nearest Beach ­- Kato Stalos ­ - 8 mins drive. 

Nearest Taverna and Shop ­- Pano Stalos - 6 min drive or 500m via a walkable short cut - downhill to the village and uphill on the way back.

Booking Information

Change-over days are totally flexible but are subject to existing bookings taken either side. If a booking means that the owner would be left with too many "void" days we might not be able to accept it. If this is the case we will contact you without delay to discuss alternatives.

Payment can be made by bank transfer to our sterling account or by debit or credit card (Mastercard or Visa) only.

Please note: although the calendars show live availability and you can book on-line, please note that your booking is not confirmed until we have issued a confirmation of booking. You may prefer not to book your flights until we have confirmed the booking.  

Low occupancy discounts - unfortunately the online booking system automatically calculates the single couple or small party discount based on the number of people entered onto the booking form and the start day of your rental. There are 2 problems with this:-

a) If you are 2 people but not a single couple, or 3 or 4 people but not 2 + 1 or 2 + 2, the system will have automatically calculated a discount when it is not due. Please make use of the "additional notes" box on the booking form to tell us and we will adjust the price accordingly before we confirm your booking.

b) If your rental overlaps from a discounted period to a non-discounted one (or vice versa), the discount calculated will be wrong. In these cases we have to make the adjustment manually. You can still book on-line but we will need to change the price on receipt of your booking request. If the price increases we will contact you to confirm the new price before we confirm your booking and take your deposit.

Please don't let either of these issues put you off making a booking. The discounts are genuine and our villa owners welcome couples and smaller parties out of high season. We just can't fine tune the booking system to account for these 2 circumstances - sorry.

We have had five previous visits to Crete and Villa Polyanna has been our best accommodation to date. Thank you for providing such a welcoming home to us. Reading previous reviews here and the Information Pack provided gave us some good ideas re shopping and eating out. The huge SYKA supermarket has everything one could need and Yannis beach was a lovely stop for coffee (or longer stay following a shop!) We tried Matagis, Leventis, Cassaroles and Kosmas restaurants. We also ventured into the hills and ate at Drakianas Tavern, under trees and by a gently flowing river - a cool and relaxing spot. The Tres Jolie bakery seemed to be the closest bakery for bread and pastries. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay here -especially the peace and quiet. Thank you again - September 2023.   

Thank you for an amazing two weeks. We have loved the villa, both as a convenient base for visiting different places and as a peaceful retreat for spnding relaxing days playing in the pool and enjoying the beautiful view. We have loved our first trip to Crete and hope to be back soon - August 2023.

The villa was a home from home being well equipped, comfortable beds and plenty of space. We particularly loved the outdoor space and made good use of the pool. The views are spectacular and the cicadas spectacularly noisy!! We too had lovely meals at Matigio; their hospitality was generous and very friendly. Visited the Samaria Gorge - well worth the drive. Lake Kournas was lovely too - enjoyed the food and fresh water swimming. Three hour sunset boat trip from Chania with Chania Boat Trips was good value and entertaining. Crete hasn't disappointed but there's plenty left to explore! - July 2023.

What have we enjoyed about our holiday in Villa Polyanna? - The pool, air-con, outside sofa and other seating areas, garden, well-equipped kitchen, trips to Chania and Elafonisi and day trips to other beaches - July 2018.

We have had a wonderful time. We think the villa is perfect. Particularly love all the different seating areas! No matter what time of day it is there is always somewhere to sit in/out of the sun and the beautiful gardens to admire. The beds are probably the most comfortable we've ever slept in on our many visits to Crete. We felt the car was essential and drove to old haunts and discovered new places. We hope to return one day, maybe with other family members - May 2018.

Beautiful villa, high on a hillside with fantastic views from the sea to the White Mountains. Well equipped and plenty of places to sit in the sun or the shade whatever the time of day. Car essential unless you are as agile as a mountain goat! Highly recommended -
