General Description

Nestled in the hillside conveniently close to the Cretan villages of Kokkino Horio and Plaka where you will find well stocked mini-markets and tavernas, Villa Bougainvillea is a modern, fully air-conditioned, 3 bed villa (to sleep 7) with two swimming pools and boasting fantastic views towards Souda Bay and the White Mountains.

The villa is situated within a secure walled and gated plot and is a particularly good choice for young families as it benefits from a separate childrens paddling pool adjacent to the main swimming pool with restricted access, allowing parents and/or grandparents to relax knowing children can play safely. There is ample driveway parking for cars within the gates and a well established garden.

To maximise the amazing sea views, Villa Bougainvillea has the living accommodation on the first floor and the bedrooms on the ground floor enabling you to relax by the pool in an evening whilst the children sleep close by. The bedrooms also benefit from staying naturally cooler in the very hot months.

Ground Floor

All three air conditioned bedrooms are comprehensively fitted with plenty of wardrobe space, drawers, bedside tables, dressing tables, mirrors and ceiling fans. There is one double room, furnished with a wooden bed and two twin rooms with metal bedsteads. Patio doors lead to covered furnished terraces with gated access to the pool area.

The family bathroom is located on this floor with bath with shower over, hand basin, and wc. As standard in Greece, the washing machine is also positioned in this bathroom.  

First Floor

A marble staircase (with handrail) leads to the spacious, air conditioned lounge/dining/kitchen area. A comprehensively equipped kitchen provides everything you will need for self catering (see amenities list) with a large glass dining table and 6 chairs conveniently positioned centrally in the room. 

Two leather sofas (conversion to a sofa bed for one child) provides plenty of comfortable seating arranged socially around the coffee table and facing the TV (Smart) and corner stone fireplace. 

Two sets of patio doors lead onto a large, furnished and covered (pergola) balcony extending the full width of the villa; the perfect place for soaking up those magnificent ocean views and fabulous sunsets.

To complete the upstairs accommodation and to the rear, is a handy shower room with walk-in shower, hand basin and wc. 

External Areas

Both pools are surrounded by sunbathing with glorious views towards Souda Bay and ample sunbeds are provided with plenty of space for everyone to spread out. Movable umbrellas provide some much needed shade during the hottest part of the day and can be positioned to provide cover over the children's pool, if desired. 

In the evening the pool area is a lovely place to unwind; this whole area benefits from soft lighting and spotlights in the pool. For times when you prefer to eat at the villa, a stone built BBQ is perfect for a spot of al fresco dining. 

There are so many furnished balconies/terraces at Villa Bougainvillea that you will,be spoilt for choice when seeking the perfect place to chill out and relax.

 Villa Bougainvillea is licensed for holiday rentals with the Greek Tourist Authorities (EOT). Licence number AMA 00000592276.

Chania airport ­- 45 mins drive. Heraklion airport - 1 hr 55 mins drive.

Nearest Beaches ­- Almyrida - 40 mins walk / 6 mins drive or Kalives - 15 mins drive.

Nearest Tavernas and Shops ­- Kokkino Horio - 12 mins walk / 3 mins drive or Plaka - 22 mins walk / 5 mins drive.

NB; all times are approximate and based on average driving and walking speeds. Some walking and/or driving may be on unlit and unmade track roads. Please refer to the map tab to view satellite images of the area.

Booking Information

Change-over days are totally flexible but are subject to existing bookings taken either side. If a booking means that the owner would be left with too many "void" days we might not be able to accept it. If this is the case we will contact you without delay to discuss alternatives.

Payment can be made by bank transfer to our sterling account or by debit or credit card (Mastercard or Visa) only.

Please note: although the calendars show live availability and you can book on-line, please note that your booking is not confirmed until we have issued a confirmation of booking. You may prefer not to book your flights until we have confirmed the booking.

Low occupancy discounts - unfortunately the online booking system automatically calculates the single couple or small party discount based on the number of people entered onto the booking form and the start day of your rental. There are 2 problems with this:-

a) If you are 2 people but not a single couple, or 3 or 4 people but not 2 + 1 or 2 + 2, the system will have automatically calculated a discount when it is not due. Please make use of the "additional notes" box on the booking form to tell us and we will adjust the price accordingly before we confirm your booking.

b) If your rental overlaps from a discounted period to a non-discounted one (or vice versa), the discount calculated will be wrong. In these cases we have to make the adjustment manually. You can still book on-line but we will need to change the price on receipt of your booking request. If the price increases we will contact you to confirm the new price before we confirm your booking and take your deposit.

Please don't let either of these issues put you off making a booking. The discounts are genuine and our villa owners welcome couples and smaller parties out of high season. We just can't fine tune the booking system to account for these 2 circumstances - sorry.

At the last minute had to find a place as our original villa unavailable. Jennifer stepped in to save the family holiday and was so helpful even though she had to pull some favours in, for which we were so grateful. The villa itself was perfect with lots of open space, great facilities, and fantastic views. The neighbours were lovely too. So close to good beaches and restaurants too, but far enough away to be peaceful. Can’t recommend enough and will certainly return when back in Crete - September 2021.

This villa is beautifully located with panoramic sea views. Ample balconies so you can soak up the sun, or find a nice cool corner in the shade. Fully equipped with all mod cons, dishwasher and aircon in all bedrooms. The bedrooms are downstairs, and have plenty of storage, and access to the pool. The outside areas are beautifully set up, lots of space, and safe and secure (if you have little ones). We spent a lot of time on the upstairs balcony taking in the sea views and Chania background. The pool area is big enough for everyone with lots of your 'own space' . The pools are clean and well maintained. Communication with the owner was helpful and fast. We had an amazing fortnight in this lovely, modern, spacious and beautiful part of Crete. Thank you - August 2019.

The villa was beautifully positioned in Kokkino Chorio to take in sea views and as a family consisting of two children under 5, 2 parents and 2 grandparents, it had everything we required to have a very comfortable holiday. It was an added bonus to have the separate children's pool which was ideal for our 4 and 2 year old. The BBQ round the pool was great for evenings where we preferred not to eat out and it was amazing to see the Crete sunset. The location was great and we enjoyed the local beaches of Almyrida and Kalyves and the gentle shelving sea meant it was great for the kids. These were also great places for dinner as well as the the local village of Plaka (under 5 minute drive). Overall I would highly recommend this villa and its location and would not hesitate to return - July 2019.

This is a beautiful and well equipped villa. Such a choice of balconies meant we could always sit in the sun or shade, whatever we wanted. It was hard to tear ourselves away from the peaceful long balcony overlooking the bay, but we did manage to have some days exploring Chania, Rethymno, Knossos and Aptera. In the evenings, it was an easy 20 minute walk to the village of Plaka, with several good tavernas. We also ate a few times at the very friendly Ioannis taverna in Kokkino Chorio itself which is a steep walk up from the villa but worth it, and an easy walk home again! I would have no hesitation in recommending the villa to others - August 2018. 

We have now come here three years in a row and cannot recommend this beautiful home enough. The views are just stunning and the house is wonderful. It is great to be at the villa enjoying the pools and the views, and it is also fun to explore. There are lovely shops, a child friendly beach, and many restaurants close by... and if you wander further you can get to stunning secluded beaches as well as archaeological sites. The hosts are extremely helpful and the area is very quiet and relaxing. This is a perfect family spot! - July 2017. 

A beautiful, well-presented villa in a perfect location, with stunning views, for exploring the local area. Ideal for the whole family as close to beaches, restaurants and bars to sample the local food and traditions, historic sites and opportunities for the more energetic to try scuba diving, waterpark and go-karting. The villa has a lovely pool and smaller one for the younger children. Facilities within the villa are excellent with everything you could need and very well presented. We had an amazing holiday - action packed but with time to relax at this lovely villa. We would definitely like to return and would have no hesitation in recommending Villa Bougainvillea to other holiday makers - July 2017.

We returned to this house after a fantastic holiday the previous summer. It was just as fabulous this time...a great place to be with a family. The kids lived in the pools...we also made trips to the beach and the local tavernas...This is a place we will return to again! - August 2016.

We felt so lucky to find this amazing place...we were an extended family...6 adults and two children...7 and 3. The home is very comfortable with absolutely breathtaking views...amazing sunsets! You can spend time by the pool (with a children's pool as well)...grill at home or stroll into one of the neighboring towns for shops and restaurants. It is a great place to balance relaxing at home and exploring neighboring sights and beaches. We liked being away from the touristy crowds but also being close enough to drive just 10 minutes to the beach in Almyrida. The owner is very helpful...she has many good suggestions of places to try. We will definitely be returning to this fantastic home! - July 2015. 

We stayed as a family of 5 adults and one 3-year old child during July 2014. The villa is large, spacious and very well furnished. Perhaps the most outstanding feature of the villa is the wonderful view from all windows, and we really enjoyed watching the sun setting over Souda Bay. The pool area is excellent and security gates ensured peace of mind that our adventurous 3 year-old could not access the pool herself. There are ample sunbeds, umbrellas and a large table and chairs. The barbecue is excellent. The three bedrooms, are well furnished with attractive decor and air conditioning and ceiling fan. All bedrooms have their own access to the pool. The living room / kitchen area is on the top floor and is spacious and very light with a large balcony. The kitchen is very well equipped and the living area very comfortable. This room enjoys the breeze from the sea and the two ceiling fans and shutters are all that is required to keep the room cool, though an A/C unit is also available. There are plenty of books, CD's, travel guides etc. and a very useful information pack. There was an excellent stock of beach towels provided and a cool bag for taking to the beach. Car hire is essential. - July 2014. 

We spent a couple of weeks at the Villa Bougainvillea in April. All in all it was a great holiday, the villa is lovely with great facilities. The pool and terrace is great (though the pool is a little cold this early). We had two small children with us and everything was very comfortable. We also loved the BBQ but the best part is the stunning view over the bay. A car is necessary for getting around. Even so we had some nice walks to neigbouring villages of Kokkino Chorio and Plaka. We did a great diving tour with Omega Divers in Almyrida which was absolutely fabulous. We would definitely do it all again :) - April 2014.
