Ideally located in a quiet spot only 10/15 minutes walk to the village of Plaka where you will find an excellent mini market and several tavernas; Villa Diktynna offers air-conditioned accommodation within a walled garden setting. Unusually, for a villa so close to the village, the pool and garden at Villa Diktynna are extremely private. There is parking for at least 2 cars within the gates. (NB - the owners small car is often left on site tucked away in the corner of the driveway)
To maximise the countryside views towards Souda Bay and the Akrotiri peninsula beyond, Villa Diktynna has been built with the bedrooms on the ground floor and the living accommodation on the first floor. This has the added advantage of keeping the bedrooms naturally cooler.
The villa has a wood burner which makes it a good choice for early or late season holidays when some heating may be required if the evenings turn chilly.
NB - when driving or walking from the village of Plaka to the villa the final 300m (approx) is via an unmade track.
Comprising of three attractive bedrooms; two rooms have double beds and the third is a twin with the 2 single beds positioned at right angles to each other. We would suggest that this room is ideal for children but not for adults. All the bedrooms have patio doors leading to terraces overlooking the garden or the pool terrace. The bedrooms are well equipped with wardrobes and drawers for clothes storage.
The large family bathroom with a corner bath and shower over is also located on the ground floor.
The light and airy lounge/dining area and kitchen are on the first floor. The kitchen is extremely spacious and well equipped for all of your self catering needs. The lounge is comfortably furnished and has the added advantage of a lounge "extension" which can be opened up or closed off using a set of double doors. There is a single sofa bed in the "extension" allowing this space to be used as a single bedroom for a child if desired. Immediately off the main lounge is a well furnished balcony, perfect for drinks before dinner whilst enjoying views over the surrounding countryside of olive groves and towards the Akrotiri peninsula beyond.
There is a small balcony off the kitchen which is an ideal spot to breakfast for 2 people and at the top of the stairs a small balcony which overlooks the pool.
Completing the first floor amenities is a shower room with shower, wc and wash handbasin.
The villa is situated on a quiet track, behind large gates, making the pool terrace private. There is plenty of space for sunbathing and for everyone to spread out around the pool. The villa boasts a very private garden with 2 distinctly different areas. The garden adjacent to the pool is planted with palm trees and yuccas. The rest of the garden surrounding the villa is reached through an archway, to the side of the villa and the pool; this area is left in a mainly natural state with many mature trees and colourful shrubs. If you tire of the sun, there are many shady places to sit, both in the garden and around the villa with two covered seating areas overlooking the pool.
A portable BBQ is provided for those preferring to stay at the villa some evenings and enjoy al fresco dining.
The internet is unlimited provided via satellite. Full instructions on connecting etc are in the Villa Information Book in the villa.

Prices quoted are in gbp sterling, per week, for up to 6 people occupying the villa and are not per person. The villa can sleep up to 7 with 1 person using the sofa bed (lounge 'extension'); the sofa bed is charged at the rate of £7 per night.
Alternative length of stays of more than 7 nights are accepted and are charged pro rata.
Prices include air- conditioning, a welcome pack , all linen including beach and pool towels***, and maid service and linen change.
Maid service and linen change - 1 week stays - end of let clean and 2 week stays - at the end of week 1 + end of let clean. ***NB - the beach/pool towels are not laundered as part of the linen change.

Low Occupancy Discounts
A low occupancy discount for a single couple (use of 1 bedroom), of 15%, is available at this villa except for July and August dates.
Not allowed on late availability or special offer prices.
If you are a returning client and this is your 3rd (or more) consecutive booking with Crete Escapes or your 2nd separate booking in one season, you will qualify for our loyalty discount. Please quote voucher code LOYALTY5 when asked to do so during the online booking process or let us know when you contact us. Your reduction of 5% will then be deducted from the total price.
Short breaks are normally only available for a minimum of 5 nights and will be charged at the 7 nightly rate unless otherwise advertised. However, if the number of available days between existing bookings is less than 7 nights we may be able to accept bookings at a reduced rate subject to the owners agreement.
Short breaks are allowed within 3 days of arrival.
Change-over days are totally flexible but are subject to existing bookings taken either side. If a booking means that the owner would be left with too many "void" days we might not be able to accept it. If this is the case we will contact you without delay to discuss alternatives.
Payment can be made by bank transfer (sterling or euro) or by debit or credit card.

Low occupancy discounts - unfortunately the online booking system automatically calculates the single couple or small party discount based on the number of people entered onto the booking form and the start day of your rental. There are 2 problems with this:-
a) If you are 2 people but not a single couple, the system will have automatically calculated a discount when it is not due. Please make use of the "additional notes" box on the booking form to tell us and we will adjust the price accordingly before we confirm your booking.
b) If your rental overlaps from a discounted period to a non-discounted one (or vice versa), the discount calculated will be wrong. In these cases we have to make the adjustment manually. You can still book on-line but we will need to change the price on receipt of your booking request. If the price increases we will contact you to confirm the new price before we confirm your booking and take your deposit.
Please don't let either of these issues put you off making a booking. The discounts are genuine and our villa owners welcome couples and smaller parties out of high season. We just can't fine tune the booking system to account for these 2 circumstances - sorry.

We had a fantastic time at Villa Diktynna. It is a lovely villa in an excellent location; the area is so quiet and peaceful yet only 10 minutes walk to Plaka village centre. Everything was as we expected when we arrived at the villa and the local property management team were helpful when we had a question about the wifi. The cleaning and linen changes were done quickly and professionally. I would definitely recommend Villa Diktynna - July 2017.
After a wonderful stay at Villa Dyktynna last summer, we're considering coming back to Crete this July. We loved Dyktynna because it felt so remote and yet was quite close to Plaka and we didn't have a car for the two of the three weeks that we stayed there (from visitor in July 2016).
We had a fantastic stay at Villa Diktynna. It is in a very peaceful location but within easy walking distance of the centre of Plaka. It is very spacious and beautifully furnished. A real highlight is the pool and outdoor space. The villa surpassed our expectations. We would highly recommend it. We have had a wonderful stay at Villa Diktynna. It was exactly what we were looking and hoping for - and so much more! Our 3 year old son loved the pool and the garden, while our baby girl enjoyed discovering delicious Cretan foods and taking quick dips in the pool. The villa had everything that was needed for self catering and a comfortable stay. Car hire and transfer worked out very well too. We are thinking about coming back next year - July 2016

Crete is the most southerly Greek island with an agreeable climate. The tourist season usually starts around April and lasts until the end of October. The spring (April) is a good time to visit for hiking and to see the beautiful flowers.
In early summer (May and June) the temperatures will be climbing steadily to an average in the mid 20's. This is a good time to visit if you don't have to keep to school holiday dates as the climate is very pleasant and there are few crowds.
July and August are the busiest (and hottest) months with tourists from all over Europe choosing Crete for their holiday destination. The north westerly winds usually moderate the temperatures but it's best to make sure your holiday accommodation offers shelter from the hot sun. It goes without saying that the sea will be warm.
September is still high season with warm, sunny days and the sea is still warm. The season draws to a close in October but this is a perfect month for visiting the island as the sea is still warm for swimming and activities such as hiking and visiting the archaeological sites can be undertaken in pleasant temperatures.
