Nestled away in the hilly landscape of eastern Crete is the stunning village of Kalo Chorio. Translated as the ‘Good Village’, this is the place to visit if you want to truly experience Cretan traditions.
Due to its small size, it hosts a population of around 900. It is also a working village, so is not overly developed for tourists, meaning you will have an experience like no other in this beautiful area.
Boasting 3 stunning beaches all within walking distance from the village, you’ll find golden sand, crystal clear waters and a great place to unwind. With cafes and sunbeds for hire on the beaches, you’ll have everything you need to spend the day relaxing and listening to the waves.
If you fancy exploring the history of the area, Kalo Chorio has several interesting ancient archaeological sites, dating back to 3000 BC. Among them are Priniatikos Pyrgos, Vrokastro, and Vasiliki, Lasithi. The latter was first excavated in 1903, initially taking 3 years to complete.
Many houses and a paved courtyard can be found here which dates back to 2500 BC – perfect for those who are interested in ancient history, or just love exploring!
Kalo Chorio is located only hours’ drive away from Heraklion, the largest city in Crete and also one of the largest in Greece. This means not only is it ideally located for those flying into Heraklion airport, but perfect if you’d like to explore one of the most fascinating and lively cities on the island.
We have three properties available for rental in Kalo Chorio, Villa Hibiscus, Villa Jasmine and Villa Poppy. They sleep between 4 to 6 people, boasting private pools and stunning views. As these villas are next door to each other they are also ideal for larger parties of up to 14 people.
