Villa Sophie is an ideal choice for a family with young children as it's possible to restrict access to the pool area from the villa. As well as suiting families, the internal layout at the villa easily lends itself to two couples holidaying together. The villa is located within walking distance of the village of Kokkino Chorio and enjoys splendid sea views to the front and generous, well tended gardens on all sides.
Villa Sophie has been built and furnished in a traditional style but offers up to the minute fittings and equipment. The villa benefits from being air-conditioned throughout. It is also centrally heated making it a comfortable place to stay in the early or late season when the evenings might be a little chilly.
The open plan living and dining area has a smart, well equipped kitchen off to one side - see the features list for full details of the kitchen equipment. Two sets of french doors open up to a spacious terrace overlooking the pool and gardens with sea views across Souda Bay. A gate is available to fit across this ground floor terrace in order to restrict access to the swimming pool.
To the rear of the ground floor is one of the comfortable double bedrooms (double bed) with the family bathroom (bath, shower, wc and washbasin) adjacent to it. Guests using this room have their own furnished, private balcony overlooking one of the side gardens at the villa.
For your entertainment there is a TV with satellite reception (not SKY), DVD player, CD player and radio. DVD’s, CD’s, books and games are provided. One of the sofas will convert to a sofa bed for one. (A z bed is also available but note the maximim number allowed at the villa is 7)
Leading off from a sizeable landing there are two further comfortably furnished bedrooms (one x double and one x twin) with a large shower room (large shower, wc and washbasin) conveniently situated between them. The double bedroom has a private balcony with a table and chairs whilst the twin room has easy access to the large verandah that runs along the whole of one side of the villa. This furnished and part shaded terrace is a wonderful place to sunbathe privately or relax during the day and for drinks or dining al fresco in the evenings.
All bedrooms have plenty of storage with wardrobes and drawer storage space, bedside cabinets, bedside lights and hairdryers.
Villa Sophie stands in a private plot of 1,000m2 (approximately 1/4 of an acre) on the outskirts of the village of Kokkino Chorio, only 10 minutes walk to the local tavernas and the village shop. The villa has far reaching views over the village to the White Mountains and across Souda Bay to the Akrotiri peninsula.
The private 50m2 pool is surrounded by sunbathing terraces with sun loungers, umbrellas and small tables for drinks etc. There is a lovely well tended garden which extends to all sides of the villa, part of which has been planted with aromatic herbs which the cook is welcome to use. Small tables and chairs inviting you to sit and relax can be found dotted around the garden.
There is a BBQ situated on the front terrace allowing the cook to enjoy the sea views and glorious sunsets. At night the exterior is well lit so that you can enjoy relaxing evenings around the villa. The villa and its grounds are within a walled and gated plot with private parking for at least 2 cars.
As well as the working fireplace, the property is centrally heated which makes it a good choice for early or late season holidays when some heating may be required if the evenings are chilly.

Another great holiday in this lovely villa. Well equipped, spacious and comfortable with plenty of areas for worn-out mums to retreat for some space! Enjoyed the beach at Almyrida, the pedalos at Lake Kournas, as well as the pool here. Dimitri’s in Almyrida is good, as is Taki’s in Plaka. Una Faccia Una Razza in Plaka is lovely for a treat. And try out the ice cream parlour next door to the Pear Tree on the road out of Almyrida. Home made deliciousness! Can’t wait to come again - September 2018.
We have had a fantastic time in this lovely villa. We’ve been very comfortable and it had lots of little extras which made our holiday very enjoyable. Zachary (2.5 years old) is much more confident in the water now, although we suspect the sea off the south coast of England will be a big shock for him. He has loved playing with all the toys in the pool and jumping in whilst Lucy (7 months) regally waves from a lilo boat. We have also enjoyed the beach by the marina in Almyrida, very quiet and calm and shallow and perfect for kiddies, as well as jumping over the waves in Kalyves. We had a couple of trips to Georgiopolis – super play park and outdoor gymnasium equipment which we all tried out. Favourite tavern is Haropokos in Plaka, excellent food, very reasonable. Also enjoyed Dimitri’s in Almyrida, Il Fomo and Mythos in Kalyves. Lunchtime eats included Mitsos (gyros on main street in Kalives), Atlantis Beach in Almyrida, Bellissimo gyros in Georgiopolis and Kalami Parking’s view cannot be beaten – it’s the motorway café between Souda and the turn to Kalives. Finally, for a bit of history, we visited Aptera (also near Kalami Parking), highly recommend this site. Zachary loved trying the acoustics in the theatre. Take your own water etc., as there isn’t a café but they do now have toilets in the old monastery buildings. Fabulous views, including, in the distance, Villa Sophie! Thanks you Peter and Anne for looking after us - September 2018.
Had the most amazing time here! Lots of lovely places to visit and some delicious food. After reading previous visitors’ comments/recommendations we finally went to Elpis and were not disappointed – by far the best restaurant we visited and it had a wide range of meals, suitable for all ages. With some beautiful weather we spent many days at various beaches. Travelling to the other side of the island we drove to Balos – west coast. You can get a boat there but we decided to drive (about 2 hours, lots of which was a very bumpy mountainous track – Mum was very scared). Unfortunately by the time we had parked and walked down to the beach the sky had darkened. The sea was beautiful and there were lots of fish to be seen but soon enough the heavens opened. It was torrential! We quickly packed up and left – I know, poor effort from the Brits – you’d think we’d be used to it! Despite this, definitely worth the trip! Also visited Elafonissi (south-west) on another scary road but was worth it! Beautiful white, sandy beach with turquoise clear sea – absolutely stunning! Would recommend going early to avoid crowds and to find a good place on the beach. Great villa, kept in marvellous condition with everything you could possibly need! Thank you! And thank you to Peter and Anne for being so accommodating, kind and extremely helpful - August 2018.
Amazing holiday in this lovely villa. Well stocked, beautifully placed and lovely pool. We found a few gems we loved. Restaurants – Heliostasi in Douliana. This place is off the beaten track and quite quiet. The steak melts in your mouth and the pork was delicious too. Definitely worth the 20 -25 minute drive. Taki’s – lovely place, as is Elpis. Both in Plaka and the fish tavern (Thalami) on the seafront in Almyrida are all lovely too. The beach in Kalives is quieter than at Almyrida and we thought better. The water park (Limnopolis) near Chania is worth a visit too. Kids loved it (8, 11, 11 years) but book in advance to make it cheaper! Peter and Anne, thanks for everything. Very helpful and friendly - July 2018.
This has been a great villa holiday. I very much enjoyed the pool and the well-stocked villa. We watched England win a world cup match at Dimitri’s in Almyrida – good dinner too. Peter and Anne were very helpful and did a great job on the villa. Our local restaurant was Janni’s at Kokkino Chorio – made us feel very welcome and one night we even sampled the delights of the local rock band, GBH. I hope the singer’s throat improves soon! Another restaurant worth a visit is by the Glass Factory – the wine was superior to most we have tasted here and available for take-out. I don’t want to go! One week not enough! 2nd visit and love it here - June 2018.
We have had a lovely break with Viv, Pete, Jill and David here. A lot of relaxing at the pool and beach and for me at least – a lot of snorkelling. There are some great spots locally for the budding ‘Jacques Cousteau’s!! The bay at Almyrida is very good and for those that want to go further afield, Plakias (approx. 80km on the south of the island) has a wonderful reef and seaweed bed that is full of marine life - June 2018.
We have had a lovely break here at the villa. We enjoyed trips to Chania and Lake Kournas. Food wise we liked Yo Talokido locally plus Elpis on our last night. We enjoyed the food in Takis but not as much as Elpis. Almyrida beach was our favourite. Thanks to Peter for all his help with a few minor things at the beginning - September 2017.
Elpis - best taverna/food in Plaka. Retreat restaurant - great views. Loved watching the goats come down each morning. First ever villa holiday - loved it so much more than all inclusive hotels - more relaxing - August 2017.
Very lovely holiday with a lovely pool. Favourite tavernas were Elpis and Takis in Plaka. Loved the villa - August 2017.
Beautiful views, lovely pool and excellent facilities. We really enjoyed our holiday. The local snorkelling is fabulous and we recommend a boat trip from Almirida to take in the full extent of the local coastline. Lake Kournas is a must, as is the historic Roman village of Lappa. The indoor market at Chania has a wide selection of produce and worth a trip. Peter and Anne were most helpful as were the local Greek people. Thanks for a great time - June 2017.
We had a super week travelling to Chania, Kissamos, Elafonissi, Frangokastello and Rethymnon. We also swam at Kalives and used the pool. A most enjoyable and relaxing break, thank you - June 2017.
We had a really lovely holiday here in Crete, and a wonderful stay in Villa Sophie. Our 2 year old absolutely loved the pool and has become a very confident water baby! Our favourite beach was the one on the far side of Kalives, opposite the Inka supermarket. Much less busy than the beaches in the town and lots of room for sandcastles. We also loved a day trip to the mountains, be prepared for some real rally driving. Would recommend the butcher in Kalives and baklava from any bakery. Thank you for a lovely stay - September 2016.
Chris: Wonderful villa – very clean and tidy and well stocked. Great location and we were blessed with beautiful weather. Our children enjoyed themselves immensely and the pool was in constant use. Peter and Anne were a great support. Tia: It was an amazing holiday. The view was amazing and we all really enjoyed the restaurants that we ate at. Thank you. Cleo: My favourite part was the pool because of the hot weather I loved it so much I want to come back. The view and nature around us was awesome. Erin: This year might have been my favourite holiday because of 3 things: the view, the heat and pool and finally the villa. Plus I liked the restaurants but my favourite ones were Takis, Fish Taverna and Elpis. My favourite bit though was going into Chania to get my feet nibbled twice at a fish spa. Thank you - August 2016.
We really had a wonderful two weeks stay at this beautiful villa. The villa was everything you need and we were very comfortable. It was wonderful just listening to the goat bells and the crickets and daydreaming! Just perfect. Would not hesitate to recommend the villa and surrounding areas. The villa was spotlessly clean upon arrival; we were very impressed that Peter and Anne changed linen/towels throughout our stay. We couldn’t have asked for more. Thank you Peter and Anne. Very sad to be going home as it really has been a great holiday and exceeded all of our expectations - August 2016.
Beautiful villa in a perfect location. Wouldn’t hesitate to come back! - July 2016.
Had a fabulous 3 weeks at this beautiful villa. Weather was very hot and so the pool was most welcome. This is the first villa we stayed in that offered Wi-Fi which was excellent and saved us a lot of money on mobile phone ,plans’. Lots of good nights dining out; Takis/Plaka and Lagos in Almyrida particularly good and excellent value. We also took advantage of the BBQ to dine al fresco on a few occasions – the butcher in Kalyves sells excellent meat. Many thanks finally to Peter and Anne for the care they take to make sure that the villa was pristine at all times – next year!!! - September 2015
Arriving early in the morning we did not appreciate the beautiful surroundings, which made our first morning all the richer. With a 9 year old and others 15+ upwards, there was plenty for everyone here. The villa was immaculate when we arrived, thanks to Anne and Peter, who, as documented, were helpful. Restaurants: Almyrida – Dimitris was great and Tsunami bar for lunch was perfect. Plaka – Elpis and Takis both very good – don’t eat before you go out! Highlights – Imbros Gorge and mad trip back up the hill in a pick up truck. Pedalos at Lake Kournas, Paradise Bar along Georgioupolis beach was great – not too crowded; strong waves about 2 km along from town. Explored all the bunkers; Ektor speedboat from Almyrida was the best – exhilarating ride there and back, with lots to see on the way. A great time had by all – thank you - August 2015.
Villa nice and clean, views very good. Two children (aged 2 and 4) thoroughly enjoyed the pool, being able to lock the gate at the top of of the steps so the children couldn’t venture down to the pool unattended was a BONUS! Enjoyed the beaches, especially Almyrida. Went on a couple of occasions to Chania, it was very busy but worth the drive. Takis and Elpis very good eating places in Plaka. Many thanks to Peter and Anne for being helpful when we needed them. Might see you next year – it’s been a great holiday - August 2015.
Had a fantastic holiday at Villa Sophie. The villa itself is extremely clean and well looked after and the views are absolutely lovely. The top balcony is great for outside eating. This is our first time in Greece and it has not been a disappointment. We will definitely be back. Particularly enjoyed visiting Chania, Almyrida, Georgioupolis, Lake Kournas and the falls at Argyroupolis. Ancient Aptera is also worth a visit. We have enjoyed and experienced lots of different tavernas; our favourite was Takis at Plaka. Thank you Peter and Anne for taking such good care of the villa – a place to completely relax - July 2015.
Just a quick thank you to you as well as your property managers in Crete; a thoroughly enjoyable holiday... classic case of "didn't want to come home so soon" - June 2015.
Had a great time staying in Villa Sophie and would highly recommend! The villa was spotlessly clean, we loved the well thought-out welcome pack (including a bottle of wine!), free wifi, and a beautiful pool with stunning views. We found plenty to do around the area of Kokkino Chorio, and would highly recommend a visit to Dourakis vineyard for a wine tasting and the beautiful drive to Lake Kournas (and a stop for lunch at Markos Place). We wouldn't hesitate booking again, thank you! - June 2015
Lovely villa, best equipped we have been to in Greece or Majorca. Mini market in the village is very good, as is Jon’s - English butcher in Vamos. Watching the NATO fighters and AWACS aircraft in and out of Chania airport added entertainment as well as some naval exercises. Didn’t eat out much; BBQ'd mostly. Recommend eating on the upper terrace or later in the evening to reduce visits from wasps. Peter and Anne helpful when needed. Will be sad to leave, but I’m confident we’ll be back! - June 2015
We have had a great time here. The pool was wonderful and used extensively. We brought our grandmother along this time and showed her some of the local sights. She and all of us enjoyed our stay in your comfortable home. Many thanks from all six of us. Lake Kournas was especially good! - May 2015
After arriving in the dark, pleased with ourselves for finally finding the villa, the view in the morning was a delight! Standard of villa and maid service and extras have all been great. Our first time in Crete and a return to the Greek Islands after a 20 year gap. Love this quiet, ‘real’ part of the island. Have had lovely drives to Chania, Rethymnon and Georgioupolis, swims in Lake Kournas. 12 euros for a pedalo hire worth a go as we saw turtles at the far side. Beach days at Almyrida on 3 euro a day sunbeds from Café Anita. Ate out often, very reasonable, even for a family of four. Liked Elpis and Taki’s in Plaka especially. Bakery in Almerida is excellent as is its butcher and the mini market in Kokkino Chorio has everything you need. My husband enjoyed his rally driving on the local roads in the trusty Peugeot! Lovely 12 days, thank you. P.S. Sunset on the terrace is a wonderful thing to see! September 2014
We have had a truly wonderful time in Crete, very, very relaxing. Although with young kids aged 8 and 6 years there’s a limit to the amount of relaxation. The villa is in a beautiful setting and the pool size adds to its enjoyment. Peter and Anne keep the villa very clean and our kids thoroughly enjoyed talking to them and helping in cleaning the pool. As per previous comments the wasps are slightly annoying but having a BBQ after sunset allows you to be left in peace and the kids enjoyed the experience. Our favourite restaurants were, the local one in the village and Taki’s in Plaka. Things to do and our favourites were Lake Kournas pedalos with slides; water park near Chania and the beach at Almerida and speed boats. The locals are very friendly and it all added up to a great time. Thanks. August 2014
Wonderful week, fabulous villa and weather.Peter and Anne are lovely and very helpful. Everything we needed was here and more. All the tavernas we tried were good but The Retreat was our favourite: gorgeous food, a little dearer but so worth it and so quick to walk to; nice not to have to take the car. Also a good night at the tavern in the square on Friday with a live band. Climb the mountain behind the villa for a super view! August 2014
It was absolutely lovely! Will definitely recommend you and Villa Sophie - it was all gorgeous and we were very well looked after. A few more signs in the little roads up from Plaka would be great though! A bit tricky to find but definitely worth it. Hope to use you again and many thanks - May 2014.
Well, what a great holiday and we all sad to leave ‘our’ villa! So well-equipped everything is here and lovely quality fixtures and fittings. Very clean and well presented by Peter and Anne. Haven’t had a bad meal anywhere but we like Elpis in Plaka best. Thank you for the info Peter and Anne and the garden is a triumph! - September 2013.
I just wanted to say how pleased we were with our stay at the Villa Sophie recently. We had booked from the Tuesday to Saturday (11) nights and after a very early start at Gatwick we were delighted to find that everything was as good, or better, than we had hoped for when we planned the holiday. Spotlessly clean, the fixtures and fittings are of a high standard and absolutely everything that you could need has been thought of, including candles when there was a power cut during a thunderstorm. Very exciting! The whole area is lovely and peaceful, disturbed only by the sound of the sheep and goat bells as they make their way to and from the hillside behind the villa. Our favourite times were taking in the views of the bay and the wonderful mountains at breakfast time on the terrace and in the evenings watching the sun go down with a glass of Cretan wine in our hand. We made the most of the pool and completely relaxed but also visited Chania, walked the Samaria Gorge, ate in the beautiful local villages and swam at the local coves. Peter and Anne were lovely and very helpful with local knowledge. Don’t forget to ask the way to Ombrigialos. It’s beautiful!! - September 2013.
Internet access is really useful for those who have to work during the holiday! A beautiful and well-equipped villa we have had a really lovely week here. The kids have loved the pool and the beach/pool toys and inflatables were a real bonus for them and a nice touch. Congratulations to the people who created and maintain the gardens they are truly beautiful and aromatic. We still have guessed what all the herbs are but guessed a few by the smell! We have been to this part of Crete for 3 years now and visited most of the restaurants. We would definitely recommend Takis the most consistently good food and friendly service. Thank you Villa Sophie, and Peter and Anne for a wonderful week. It is such a beautiful place here we love it! - August 2013.
Villa was wonderfully clean, tidy and well equipped. Local restaurants all excellent. Our 5th time visiting Crete love everything about it! Total tranquillity, can’t help but relax! Many thanks to Peter and Anne for all the little extra touches. Hope to be back soon! - August 2013.
Loved the night sky, star gazing and bat watching. On our first night, the moon was enormous, coming up over the hill behind the villa, so special, things we don’t see so well at home. Places we visited Limnoupolis Water park, Chania which was great but very busy, beach at Almyrida is fab and caters for all. Best shop the Pear Tree in Almyrida. Georgioupolis beach is good, interesting drive down with stunning views - August 2013.
Hi - Just a quick mail to say Thanks again for another wonderful holiday in Crete. The Villa Sophie was beautiful, well equipped and in a very peaceful location. We had a very relaxing holiday. We would also like to say that Peter and Ann were very professional and on the ball. We only had to call on Peter once for the Internet - previous occupants had used up the whole months allocation! He came over very promptly and downloaded more usage for us - no issue at all. Pan Car also were very on the ball. We were on our way out for a day on the bikes when we realised that the car had a flat battery. We called them up to report the problem and told them where the car was. We then went on our trip and when we returned the car was fixed. Thanks again for your services in making our holiday run so smoothly. We hope to be back again next year! - July 2013.
Villa Sophie is splendid and provides an ideal base for exploring the beautiful island of Crete. We have not previously enjoyed such a well-equipped and well cared for villa. We will miss early morning swims, very hot bike rides and evening strolls to the Retreat restaurant. The Cretans are wonderfully friendly folks. We hope Crete retains its rustic charm and look forward to a return visit in the near future - July 2013.
2 lovely weeks; thank you Peter and Anne (property managers) for your hospitality! Definitely go to Dourekis winery if you can very hospitable. Use the mini market in Kokkino Chorio as it's well stocked. The taverna is also very good. Imbros Gorge great, shame about the cost of the return to the top. Do buy bags of oranges from the man with the van, opposite the bakery in Almyrida. Bakery does giant donuts for those with children! Good butchers in Almyrida, next to ATM - July 2013.
A lovely week and a success with all 3 generations. Elias enjoyed various beaches and visits to the hotel in the centre of Almyrida with windmill, shallow swimming pool and playground. Grandparents went down gorge on north coast north of airport), past ruined monastery and scrambled down to the sea; also Imbros Gorge on south coast spectacular! All 5 enjoyed meals at various tavernas, especially the near one in Kokkino Chorio - June 2013.
We’ve had a great week in this amazing villa, enjoying the peace and quiet and the fantastic sunsets. As others have said, the tavernas in Plaka are all good, especially Elpis and the Retreat at St George’s Retreat is also worth a visit (but only open Weds to Sun), catering mainly to British tastes. The mini market in Plaka is also very handy and the staff are all really helpful. Hope you have as good a time as we did - May 2013.
We have just returned from our holiday in the Villa Sophie. Firstly I want to thank you for a wonderful holiday. The villa was smaller than it looked in the photos but it was extremely well equipped, the information provided was very useful and the book and DVD library added the personal touch. The information and service you gave was excellent, well-informed and accurate. Special thanks go to the property managers, Peter and Anne. Their service was great and made our stay in Crete a real holiday. I am a busy mother so this meant a lot to me. Please convey our thanks. I will certainly recommend your company to friends - October 2012.
Had a great week here in Villa Sophie. The pool was fabulous and kept us entertained for hours. The villa is well kept and thanks to Peter and Anne, (property managers) for helping when there was a power cut! We’d like to recommend The Retreat restaurant. Had a lovely meal there and is within a 10 minute walk remember to take a torch with you for your wander home as it’s very dark! Overall a very relaxing holiday for all of us. Thanks very much - September 2012.
i just noticed a postcard from Crete Escapes in my mailbox, and it reminded me to email you to thank you for the flawless arrangements you made to allow the 6 of us to have a truly perfect week in Villa Sophie. In contrast to some of the complaints in the visitor book (some of them truly deranged, complaining that the local taverna was down a hill, or that there are ants in Crete, etc), there is nothing any of us would change about the arrangements, booking process etc. I guess if i was being picky, the directions given were a little unclear at one point (finding the actual villa , i.e. the last 100 yds, at 11pm was a little tricky, but only took 10 mins), and perhaps the light by the barbecue could be placed better (so the assigned barbecue chap said), but that would be as a result of me struggling to find ANY issues - neither of which impacted at all. I have no hesitation recommending both Villa Sophie, and your organisation, to anyone who asks. Again, many thanks - hope to deal with you again soon - September 2012.
We had a fabulous two week break here. The villa is beautifully kept and well appointed our thanks to the property managers (Peter and Anne) for looking after us. Everywhere we went we encountered genuinely friendly people who were pleased to see us. The local restaurants are all good. Chania is charming and good for the shoppers in the group. All in all you can’t go wrong just follow your nose, meet the people and enjoy the island. We had a fab time and I’m sure you will too. Sorry to leave - August 2012.
We are very sorry to be leaving after a wonderful week’s holiday. The villa has been great for us, a wonderful setting and peaceful environment. We found everything that we wanted here. Cannot recommend the taverna in Kokkino Chorio enough. Giannis ,the owner, is a great host, we bought his wonderful olive oil and marmalade. Great food and terrific value you must go! - May 2012.
10/10!! We have had a lovely, relaxing stay at Villa Sophie. We have loved the pool, especially playing on the crocodile who we have now named ‘Snappy’ (but mum says the pool is ffffreezing!!) We have had some lovely meals out at Dimitri’s (in Almyrida) and Elpis (in Plaka). The mini market in Plaka is also very good and the staff are friendly. We went to Knossos to see the Minoan palace which is very fascinating and to Kalyves to see the Roman ruins and the Turkish fort. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay here at Villa Sophie and will definitely be back next year! Thank you Peter and Anne. P.S. Forgot to mention Chania it was fab! - April 2012.
One of the best attended and cleanest villas we’ve ever been to. The comfort of the guests is clearly a priority for Peter and Anne. We visited the ruins at Aptera and also Knossos ruins in Iraklion which are worth a visit though the drive is very long. The archaeological museum in Iraklion was a disappointment only one big hall. Lake Kournas is a good experience for the whole family. Liked eating at Elpis in Plaka. Much more to see and discover in Crete we’ll probably be back. P.S. Villa Sophie is very well equipped - August 2011.
Had a great relaxing 2 weeks. Villa is lovely and the area is very peaceful with friendly and helpful locals. The property managers, Peter and Anne gave us some great advice on areas to visit. Georgioupolis was a hidden gem: plenty of tavernas, beach, tourist shops for souvenir shopping, bike and car hire, turtle river lots there and very close also nice drive. Almyrida also has plenty of nice tavernas with a super beach and beautiful sunsets. We also enjoyed eating at the tavernas in Plaka - June 2011.
Would highly recommend villa as it is well equipped and in a beautiful location. Peter and Anne were always on hand to keep it very clean and to sort out any issues asap. Thanks for a great stay. Had a great time exploring the area; good chance to refine our defensive driving skills! You must try the local raki with honey! Yum! The villa is lovely and quiet, with the ringing of bells heard in the distance has all the comforts of home. Beaches were excellent! - September 2010.
The villa was everything we expected. Almyrida beach is great. Enjoyed the sunshine, the pool and the silence which only seems to get interrupted by the goat bells. Thanks to Peter for the crutches Helen managed to shop for several hours in Chania, even with a sprained ankle! P.S. Elpis in Plaka has an immense choice! - September 2010.
We have really enjoyed our stay at Villa Sophie. We loved the views and sunsets. Very comfortable accommodation all round. Almyrida is lovely for beaches and eating. Really must also give a big thank you to Peter and Anne who could not have been more friendly and helpful. We’d love to come again (and that’s unusual!) - August 2010.
We have had a lovely fortnight exploring the local area. Villa Sophie was very comfortable and we are very grateful to Peter and Anne for all their help and for keeping the villa so beautifully clean. Weather has been so hot and we really enjoyed lazing by the pool and eating out in Plaka. (Elpis is good value) Thanks for a lovely holiday! - August 2010.
Lovely villa, thanks Peter for helping out whenever we needed it and to both Peter and Anne for keeping it so clean - very hard with a 10 month old ! Crete is beautiful July 2010.
Villa Sophie has been lovely, very well kitted out and maintained brilliantly by Peter and Anne. Thanks so much for your efficiency and advice. Lovely island, especially enjoyed the Octopus café and cove near Drapanos; the little cove at Kokkino Chorio. Great taverna at Kokkino Chorio and nice meal at the tavern at the glass factory too! Thanks for everything - July 2010.
Lovely two weeks, weather perfect and everything we needed in the villa. Beautiful setting, so peaceful and relaxing, just us and the goats! Good size pool and outside space, beautiful flowers in the garden and excellent shade under the olive tree. Almyrida a favourite of ours, the restaurants are plenty with good food. Lovely villa; a huge thank you to Peter and Anne, so friendly and helpful. They keep the villa so clean and tidy which made it so relaxing for us - June 2010.
We had a great time in this lovely villa on our honeymoon. We enjoyed the outside areas, particularly watching the amazing sunsets from the upstairs terrace. Thanks to Peter and Anne for keeping the villa in such good condition - September 2009.
Lovely location, well equipped villa, lovely peaceful setting - only the goats to keep you awake - August 2009.
Lovely villa in a very picturesque setting. The villa had everything we required with the pool in daily and constant use!! - July 2009.
After some stressful months at work in the UK, what a lovely quiet place to totally relax and unwind. The villa is very well equipped with everything and more than you could need. It is kept spoptlessly clean thanks to the managers, Anne and Peter. We particularly enjoyed barbecuing in the evenings and watching the sunset - July 2009.
We would both like to thank you for the wonderful holiday we have had in Villa Sophie. It was very comfortable, well equipped and with views to die for! It will certainly not be our last visit - June 2009.
Much better than staying in a hotel and fighting for sun loungers - we're converted - July 2008.
Peaceful and tranquil setting. We've had a very comfortable stay in Villa Sophie with everything we needed on hand - May 2008.
A very comfortable villa with a well equipped kitchen. We appreciated all the entertainment provided. The location is wonderful and all we had hoped for - May 2007.
We've really enjoyed our honeymoon in this beautiful villa. The pool is lovely. We're so relaxed we're sorry to have to leave - August 2006.
Really impressed with the villa - very comfortable and equipped to a high standard - July 2006.
Crete is the most southerly Greek island with an agreeable climate. The tourist season usually starts around April and lasts until the end of October. The spring (April) is a good time to visit for hiking and to see the beautiful flowers.
In early summer (May and June) the temperatures will be climbing steadily to an average in the mid 20's. This is a good time to visit if you don't have to keep to school holiday dates as the climate is very pleasant and there are few crowds.
July and August are the busiest (and hottest) months with tourists from all over Europe choosing Crete for their holiday destination. The north westerly winds usually moderate the temperatures but it's best to make sure your holiday accommodation offers shelter from the hot sun. It goes without saying that the sea will be warm.
September is still high season with warm, sunny days and the sea is still warm. The season draws to a close in October but this is a perfect month for visiting the island as the sea is still warm for swimming and activities such as hiking and visiting the archaeological sites can be undertaken in pleasant temperatures.
