Located in the Apokoronas area of Crete about 40 minutes drive from both of the beautiful Venetian towns of Chania and Rethymnon and ideally located for exploring all the coastal resorts and mountain villages. The nearest shops and tavernas are in Vamos and Gavalochori only a few minutes drive away and a 10 minute drive brings you to the sandy, gently shelving beach at Almyrida.

The villa has 5 bedrooms (all en-suite).  Prices quoted are for 5 bedrooms but can be rented as a 3 or 4 bedroomed villa too - see low occupancy discounts within the prices tab.

Bedrooms

Each spacious bedroom is colour themed (see below) and unique in style but all have large wardrobes and are generously proportioned at approx 30 sqm.  They all boast vaulted beamed ceilings and luxury en-suite bathrooms with walk-in rainfall showers and glass shower screens. Quality, handmade mattresses with crisp Egyptian cotton bed linen will ensure a good night's sleep and the silk bed covers enhance the beautiful colour scheming of each room. Luxury Egyptian cotton towels and pool towels are also supplied.

The Aubergine bedroom has a super king size bed, which can also be configured as two spacious singles, and is Moroccan in style.  The contemporary room offers spectacular views over the pool terrace, Gavalochori and the dramatic Drapanos Mountain.

The Teal bedroom has a super king size bed, which can also be configured as two spacious singles. This room is very modern with white high gloss and glass furniture. It affords the most dramatic views of the White Mountains, Gavalochori and Souda bay.

The Orange bedroom has a king size bed, is French in style, romantic and elegant and offers spectacular views over the pool terrace, Gavalochori and Souda Bay.

The Mustard bedroom has a king size bed, and is furnished in a "retro" style. It offers stunning views over the pool terrace, Gavalochori and Souda Bay.

The Green bedroom on the ground floor has a king sized bed. Ash furniture complements the feeling of natural peace and calm that is influenced by the green colour scheme. It offers amazing views over the pool terrace, Gavalochori and Souda Bay.

Ground Floor

Steps lead up to the impressive entrance which leads you into the hallway with its opulent lighting. To the right you will find a beautiful, large, open plan lounge/dining room with a fireplace and TV. The walnut dining table comfortably seats up to 10.  The dining area opens on to a large secluded patio with grassed area to the rear and the lounge area leads to a wrap around balcony at the front overlooking the pool with sea and mountain views.

To the left you will find the ultra modern, comprehensively equipped kitchen which opens up to yet another large patio area.

Completing the ground floor accommodation is the green king size double bedroom with en suite shower room and private balcony overlooking the pool together with a separate cloakroom with wc and wash handbasin.

Staircases to the 1st floor bedrooms and down to the laundry are opposite the front door.

First Floor

The remaining 4 bedrooms are located on the first floor. The Mustard and the Orange bedrooms are to the front of the property and the Aubergine and Teal bedrooms to the rear.

External Areas

Outside the villa is surrounded by a very large garden which provides lots of places to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet of the area. The beautiful infinity pool looks out to the sea and Souda Bay and, with its extensive tiled and grassed lounging areas, it must be a favourite place to soak up the sun on one of the luxury loungers. There is also plenty of shade on offer in various parts of the garden and umbrellas are supplied by the pool.

In addition to the superb kitchen, new for 2016 is a large outdoor kitchen with wood fired pizza oven, Weber gas BBQ, stone charcoal BBQ and sink. A stone patio with an area of 150 sqm is adjacent to the outdoor kitchen and pool area. Both areas have extensive pergolas and luxury outdoor seating perfect for large parties and events.

The garden is newly established but already has an abundance of colourful plants, shrubs and trees and, although still in its infancy, provides the perfect place to sit and enjoy the amazing sea and mountain views.

Reviews

We booked the whole house for our family holiday in August and it was everything we expected and more. A delightfully luxurious property, in a sublime setting with great hosts on a beautiful island!! This property really does offer the perfect blend of tranquility and relaxation with easy access to so many places of interest in this part of Crete. Sitting in the landscaped gardens with a coffee and Greek yogurt and honey in the morning planning a day of discovery, and then reflecting on the day on the terrace in the evening with a glass of local wine as the sun set in a spectacular splash of red probably sums it all up! Always split between cooking fresh local produce in the Villa or heading to one of the family tavernas in the surrounding villages, and a day out or a lazy day by the pool ... these are the sort of holiday dilemmas Villa Kerasi presents! Villa Kerasi and it's amazing location hit all the right notes for a wonderful family holiday and I would recommend it highly to anyone looking for a little bit of luxury and a lot of relaxation! - August 2017.

My wife and I have just returned from our second visit to Villa Kerasi and it was just as great as the last time we visited just over a year ago. Mark and Sharon have just added an outside kitchen and further patio area and the place is absolutely spectacular - the views from their place are really hard to beat. Mark and Sharon are the perfect hosts with lots of recommendations about what to see and do and the best local eateries. We really dropped on the week we were there, teaming up with another great couple to sample a 'Pizza night' on one evening and then an afternoon cookery lesson, where we cooked up a mean beef stifado which we enjoyed on the wonderful patio later that evening. A proper relaxing break and we will definitely be back next year - congratulations to Mark and Sharon who are wonderful hosts and have built VK into a top notch holiday experience - June 2017.

There are some wonderful highlights to report from our stay here: the villa is fantastic with amazing views looking down towards the sea. The garden, pool area, communal areas inside and bedroom are all beautifully appointed and arranged to a very high standard. It is very good value indeed - June 2017.

Our second stay at Villa Kerasi in less than twelve months. Mark and Sharon are brilliant hosts and able to provide information and support when needed or leave you to get on with your own plans if that is what you want. The location is stunning looking west with the village of Gavalahori spread out below and views of the Med. across Souda Bay. To the south are the White Mountains with snow still visible in early June. This is best viewed early evening preferably with a glass of ouzo or chilled wine to hand. An easy walk (20 -25 mins.) into nearest large village of Vamos which has several tavernas, mini markets, and even a regional health centre.  The village tourist office is a mine of information with detailed booklets of walks around Vamos and nearby areas. Beach resorts are only a 15 min. drive away and the south side of the island can be reached in an hour. A great base for touring western Crete as almost all locations can be comfortably reached in a day. As other visitors have mentioned Mark and Sharon pay attention to every detail - the bedrooms and all other areas are spotlessly clean. Would recommend without hesitation and we plan to return next year - June 2017.

The owners Mark and Sharon have put in so much time and effort to make the villa a fantastic place to stay and this is evident in the personal welcome and help/advice they gave us throughout our stay. We were grateful for some excellent restaurant tips. The villa is off the beaten track (the access road is challenging but should not put you off) and this means you are in a very peaceful and relaxing environment with unrivalled views - June 2017.

We were so grateful not only for our stay itself but Mark and Sharon's help in returning some lost property after we returned to the UK: they really went out of their way to come to our rescue. We would definitely recommend Villa Kerasi and the local area - May 2017.

We had a great stay at Villa Kerasi. The views from the villa are beautiful, the bedrooms and communal areas luxurious, which made for one of our favourite European holidays to date. Can't thank Mark and Sharon enough, perfect hosts who went out of their way to be helpful! Make sure you try all their restaurant recommendations, all we're amazing.  Easy for day trips, highly recommend Loutro for the day. We hope to return one day, thanks again Mark and Sharon - May 2017.

Villa Kerasi has been completed with such attention to detail and the rooms and garden are beautifully designed. Mark and Sharon offer a warm welcome and are very happy to advise on days out and restaurants to try. An evening at home with a BBQ and a view down to the bay as the sun sets is a perfect night in - April 2017.

The views are stunning, the villa spotlessly clean and the owners friendly and helpful. We couldn't have wished for a more beautiful place to stay. Mark & Sharon did everything to make us feel welcome and at home the very best hosts you could wish for. Comfortable beds, delicious breakfasts, a lovely pool, excellent recommendations to local tavernas, well placed to visit a variety of beaches or historic sites. We would have no hesitation in recommending this to friends. We've been home 2 days - missing it already! - May 2016.

The welcome from Mark and Sharon started a week of paradise with stunning views, a panoramic view over the bay. The rooms are first class, comfortable bed and walk in shower. Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts and they quickly became a part of our holiday. Would we stay again ? Most certainly ! - April 2016.

A wonderful week in Crete at the fabulous, beautiful Villa Kerasi. The owners, Sharon and Mark are the best hosts we have ever encountered. We are already planning a return visit. Loved Crete, loved the hotel and loved the Cretans - Oct 2015.

What you see is what you get. This really applies to Villa Kerasi. We fell in love with this beautifully located and so tastefully furnished villa from the images we saw but were sceptical whether reality would keep the promise as it seemed too good to be true. But it did completely! Mark and Sharon have built a small paradise in Crete where it feels like dreams are coming true. And their hospitality has been amazing. We felt at home with them immediately and were immensely sad when we had to leave after our one week stay. Despite the sun showing up on only one day we had a delightful stay at Villa Kerasi and its surroundings and hope to have the opportunity soon to go back there - Oct 2015.

The view from the Villa Kerasi is amazing. The villa itself is even better. We were welcomed by the owners Sharon and Mark in the most wonderful manner. They made sure that our every need was attended to. The quality of their service was only surpassed by the quality of the accommodation. The rooms were lovely, the beds comfortable, and the en suite absolutely spotless. The continental breakfast was taken either in the dining room or on the terrace and was always fresh and beautifully presented. The garden area was well looked after, although still a little 'work in progress.' The infinity swimming pool was a beauty to behold and also spotless due to Marks hard work. Both Mark and Sharon know the area very well and were extremely helpful with guidance about local places of interest and local Tavernas and restaurants - Oct 2015.

My wife and I cannot wait for our next visit to the wonderful Hotel Villa Kerasi.

Amazing views, spectacular comfort and the most welcoming of fun, interesting and attentive hosts.
Sharon and Mark have designed and built a brilliant combination of bang up to date modern comforts and pulled off the difficult trick of making Villa Kerasi feel like it been part of the landscape foreverthere! - Oct 2015.

Great place, with wonderful views over Souda Bay. Ideal for people who like to stay away from the tourist areas and experience the real Crete. Mark and Sharon are wonderful hosts and give a lot of useful tips what to do. Their home-cooked dinners are definitively recommended! - Sept 2015.

We have visited Villa Kerasi twice this year (2015) and will be back next year too. Mark and Sharon are a terrific team and their personalities compliment the experience of staying in this beautiful corner of western Crete. The hotel is relatively newly built to the exacting standards this charming couple have set for the holiday experience at Kerasi. The rooms achieve the goal of mixing style with a homely feel and you really do feel like you are staying with old friends. They offer an evening meal service which really is worth a try, both of them are excellent cooks delivering local style cuisine from locally sourced produce. Likewise breakfast is all freshly sourced local food. They have a wealth of local knowledge offering sound advice of where to go and more importantly how to get there. We cannot recommend this gem highly enough….. Like Fred Pontin always said 'Book early!' - Sept 2015.

We can only echo the other 1st class reviews for Sharon and Mark's fabulous boutique hotel! They have spared no effort or expense in ensuring they have made a beautifully appointed home from home to please even the most discerning of guest. They have also pulled off the difficult trick of making the place feel like it is a genuine part of the Cretan landscape. The beautiful rooms, the elegant landscaped gardens, the fantastic infinity pool, the views of both spectacular mountains and the sea from every room, the delicious breakfasts and above all their unflagging courteous, amusing and engaged company, travel advice and local knowledge helped us to feel that a short break had the recuperative value of a whole fortnight. Thank you both very much and may we unreservedly recommend Villa Kerasi at Vamos as one of the genuine must visits of the entire Aegean region! - Sept 2015.

This was our second visit to Kerasi and we were wowed more than the first, if that were possible. Mark & Sharon are a combined delight .....nothing seems too much trouble and they are the perfect hosts in every way. There when needed and hidden away when not. Their enterprise fully deserves the accolades here and no one can doubt their continued efforts. We are already planning visits 3 & 4 and will be back earlier and longer next year. Of course there has to be a minor downside....Mark still covets his beloved Sheffield Wednesday but maybe he will grow out of it! Up the blades! - Sept 2015.

The rooms, serene; the view, magical; the hosts, impeccable. I simply cannot recommend Villa Kerasi highly enough. The project that Mark and Sharon have undertaken was one of the most complete and welcoming that I have stayed at. For the pair of them, as mentioned on another review, nothing was too much trouble; from recommending local tavernas and even giving us lifts, a pair of the warmest hosts I have experienced. The villa itself sits on the side of the hills just outside the cosy village of Vamos, with utterly stupendous views of the White Mountains and of Souda Bay, only accentuated by a lovely terrace and infinity pool.

We visited during the back end of September for five nights and were only disappointed it wasn't for longer. I will certainly be returning to Villa Kerasi soon and I would suggest that for those visiting the Chania area, and even the rest of Crete, not to do so without a stay with Mark and Sharon - Sept 2015.

My girlfriend and I visited in early September for a week and wished we could have stayed longer. The villa itself is beautifully finished and set in a fantastic hillside location with stunning views of the sea and mountains. The pool area and garden are perfect for making the most of the the sun soaked days and warm Mediterranean nights. Hosts Mark and Sharon, for whom nothing was too much trouble, were extremely welcoming and helpful offering recommendations ranging from the best local beaches to visit to which tavernas to frequent for lunch and dinner. Breakfast, consisting of fresh fruit, jams, Greek yoghurt, bread, eggs and pastries all sourced locally and prepared every morning by Sharon and Mark, was delicious! We will certainly be visiting again when we get an opportunity! - Sept 2015.

We were really looking forward to a relaxing vacation and this is exactly what we got. The villa is at the end of a quiet road and we were greeted by Sharon and Mark with a cold drink and the stunning views over Souda bay and the mountains. The rooms are spotless, nicely furnished and again with an amazing view from the balcony. The breakfast was very good with fresh fruits, yoghurt, bread, cold cuts, cheese, jam, marmalade, juice, eggs, coffee, tea - everything freshly made. We very much liked the information about where you can eat and what you can do during the day. In everything like the decoration, the breakfast or the tips for a beautiful day out you can see the love and passion Sharon and Mark put in to Villa Kerasi. They go out of their way to make your stay as comfortable as possible - Sept 2015.

We discovered Villa Kerasi in June 2015 as a stopover on our way from Chania to Eastern Crete. We could only say a couple of nights and wished we could have cancelled our next booking to stay longer. This is a true hidden gem waiting to be discovered - off the beaten track yet near to great restaurants in Vamos and Gavalohori and with fantastic views to Souda Bay and beyond. The villa with its swimming pool and designer rooms are all you would expect of a modern facility with great attention to detail and some luxury touches. Mark & Sharon are great hosts and can't do enough to help you discover the area and enjoy your stay. We'll be back! - June 2015.

My wife and I stayed at Villa Kerasi in June 2015 and had a brilliant time. Sharon and Mark are the perfect hosts and do their utmost to make you welcome. As soon as you pull up outside their place you just know you've made the right decision - the views of Souda Bay are the best you will find anywhere on the island and the setting of the villa in the Vamos hills is simply superb. My wife is seriously OCD when it comes to furnishings and cleanliness and will never settle until she's fully inspected the room - absolutely no probs at Villa Kerasi - when it comes to housekeeping Sharon's attention to detail is exceptional - the comfiest beds and crisp white Egyptian linen being the norm - proper 5*! Additionally, they have worked really hard at giving each room a separate theme with beautiful furnishings and colour schemes - all with exceptional views of Gavalohori, Almyrida, Souda Bay and the gorgeous White mountains. Sharon does an exceptional job at breakfast which is usually taken on the patio - everything is fresh, healthy and locally sourced - if you behave yourselves she will also knock together the odd lunch by the superb infinity pool - her mizithra salad is to die for! They also operate a very reasonable honesty bar with local beers, wines and spirits, etc. so this really is a home from home. Mark keeps the grounds in tip top condition and is usually standing by with a cold beer for the village shepherd as he makes his way down the hill with his flock. Sharon and Mark are also on hand to offer great advice on days out and the best places to dine. When we arrived on the Saturday night Sharon and Mark had taken the trouble of booking us a table at the local taverna (The Parasia) because it would be the only opportunity we would get to experience the local music night - now that really is the personal touch! This really is the old laid back Greece that people frequently reminisce about - brilliant restaurants with great food and a first class welcome - it's a veritable oasis of a place and we will definitely be back! - June 2015.

A little gem set 5 miles from the beach overlooking the bay, in a rural area, with swimming pool. Evening food on request, all homemade, BBC put on one night was very good. Beautifully appointed and very friendly, Mark and Sharon were great. Need a car to stay here really, be sure to get good directions from the hotel itself, as not the easiest place to find - but one not to miss if touring around - May 2015.

We stayed at Villa Kerasi for three nights at the beginning of April. The weather was beautiful and we took breakfast outside with views of the snow capped mountains which literally takes your breath away! We were sorry we couldn't do justice to the lovely breakfast which was all laid out for us in the morning with fresh fruit, Greek yogurt, fresh squeezed orange juice, croissants, brioche and omelette if requested. Sharon and Mark are such a welcoming, warm and sociable couple and nothing is too much trouble for them, whether that be advice on the area or a cup of tea after a day of walking! The villa is extremely clean and the beds are very comfortable. The area is ideal for ramblers especially at this time of year, Sharon and Mark do have books which we borrowed and the serenity and beauty of the area which was full of wild flowers really surprised us. There are some very good places nearby to eat and the food and hospitality are second to none. In fact food hasn't tasted the same since we got back! If you decide to come to Vamos and stay at Villa Kerasi whether that be for walking or relaxing you have made a very good choice! Thank you Mark and Sharon. - April 2015.

Thank you very much for an amazing holiday in the most gorgeous surroundings. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer! Everything, from the room, the breakfast and of course the view has been perfect. An extra special thanks for being excellent hosts and especially for taking care of Sophie when she was unwell. A fantastic villa all round - September 2014.

Had a wonderful time at Villa Kerasi. Mark and Sharon are great hosts, and cooks and will help with anything you need. The villa is stunning with fantastic views and a lot of hard work has gone into the villa and they should be very proud - September 2014.

Thank you for making the short stay we had, the best. You've turned this place into a beautiful home and we're so happy you shared it with us. It was a pleasure coming 'back home' every day. We wish you all the best and hope to be back in the future - September 2014.

Although we were only round for a couple of days, it was the perfect start to our holidays. Arriving late at night on the dirt track was an adventure and we scared a donkey in the dark like a rabbit caught in the headlights. It wasn't until the next morning that we could see the staggering view from our window (the teal room) of the beautiful mountain range. We especially liked the orchestra of goats bells serenading us. Apart from all that, your hospitality has been perfect, a wonderful breakfast, helpful local advice and relaxed nature. A lovely villa, comfy beds and a nice big shower and balcony, it's been great. Thanks for having us and let us know if you're in Berlin... and up Sheffield United!!! - September 2014.

We spent a lovely moment in this blissful villa. The incredible view, the calm and your hospitality made our stay wonderful. Massage was nice and relaxing as was the pool. We will highly recommend our friends to come and stay at your place, thank you for everything - September 2014.

Dear Mark and Sharon, what a wonderful house! Very much out of the pages of homes and gardens, it's location gives fabulous views of the surrounding countryside and to Souda Bay, as well as being a place to witness spectacular sunsets. You are excellent hosts, helpful, informative and great company. Thanks so much for a very enjoyable week, one for the memory book - August 2014.

Big thank you Mark and Sharon, we were relaxed from day one. All your hard work has paid off, it is a very special place, keep living the dream, we will be back - August 2014.

A wonderful stay. Thank you so much for all of your hospitality. You have a very unique and special setting here in Vamos. We had a very special stay here and exploring Crete - August 2014.

WOW What a wonderful experience. Even though you have a new adventure, it fitted us like a new 'old shoe'.  Your careful attention to detail, constant hard work together, with individual care and attention to guests, well, there can be no doubting the success you deserve. Chilled and happy after seven days, we shall return next year for more of the same. Good luck keep smiling and Yes 'Up the Blades' - August 2014.

Thank you for your hospitality, advice, your sympathy and everything you've done for us during this lovely trip. It was really amazing, like the best evening in the taverna. We will never forget all these moments here in Villa Kerasi. It is a beautiful place and even more with you both, just magic! - August 2014.

Thank you so much for a lovely stay, it finished off our two weeks just perfectly. We will recommend you to all our friends back in Eire. Until we meet again - July 2014.

Thank you for a wonderful hoilday, the villa, the surrounding villages and the views are fantastic. Your hospitality and friendliness was brilliant. As the immortal Wallace would say 'That were cracking Gromet'.  Once again thanks and hoping you continue in making villa cherry a success - July 2014.

Beautiful villa and very friendly hosts. Enjoyed getting advice on local places to see and eat - July 2014.

This has been a most wonderful week at this most beautiful villa with such lovely hosts Mark and Sharon. It has exceeded all expectations, the views are breathtaking from the villa and Crete is such a lovely place to holiday. Hope this continues to be a wonderful dream for Mark and Sharon, what lovely, lucky people they are - July 2014.

Mark and Sharon, thank you for making our first visit to Greece so memorable. You are the perfect hosts. We have rarely been so 'chilled out' Villa Kerasi is 5 star in every way. An outstanding location with panoramic views across mountains, farms, villages and the beautiful bay of Souda. The history of the island has bewitched us and we have been captivated by the culture and hospitality of the Cretans - July 2014.

Dear Mark and Sharon, thank you for taking care of us it's an amazing view, stunning house and wonderful hospitality - July 2014.

We have had a wonderful two weeks. A stunning villa with amazing views.  A fantastic venture for Mark and Sharon and one we know will be a great success - June 2014.

We passed a very quick and pleasant journey in your location. The environment is so beautiful and the view of the sea so amazing. Thank you for all your advice, Valos was great!!, and thank you for your kindness, all was perfect, the service, the room and the breakfast. I could recommend this location to friends - June 2014.

You have understood the sence of life and Crete's 'genius loci', harmony, serendipity and beauty is from the view of the valey in front of the house. Talking about our stay in Villa Kerasi, it is possible to say that everything was great, starting from your breakfast, your approach to our terrible English!!! and finally to your kindness. We will recommend you to our friends and we hope to see you in the future here or in Italy - June 2014.

Thank you both so much for the best 2 weeks ever, what an amazing villa and the most beautiful surroundings. We've fallen in love with Crete and will definately be back in Villa Kerasi in the future - June 2014.

Mark and Sharon, what brilliant hosts! Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful home with us, a home with heart and soul. You are such lovely, warm fun people and we've loved every minute. Wishing you every success with your new business, you deserve it - June 2014.

We can't thank you enough for your hospitality and for taking us around your beautiful island. Your villa is quite breathtaking and your company is very entertaining. It has been a great experience that will stay with us forever - June 2014.

The Climate

Crete is the most southerly Greek island with an agreeable climate. The tourist season usually starts around April and lasts until the end of October. The spring (April) is a good time to visit for hiking and to see the beautiful flowers.

In early summer (May and June) the temperatures will be climbing steadily to an average in the mid 20's. This is a good time to visit if you don't have to keep to school holiday dates as the climate is very pleasant and there are few crowds.

July and August are the busiest (and hottest) months with tourists from all over Europe choosing Crete for their holiday destination. The north westerly winds usually moderate the temperatures  but it's best to make sure your holiday accommodation offers shelter from the hot sun. It goes without saying that the sea will be warm.

September is still high season with warm, sunny days and the sea is still warm. The season draws to a close in October but this is a perfect month for visiting the island as the sea is still warm for swimming and activities such as hiking and visiting the archaeological sites can be undertaken in pleasant temperatures.
