The Priest’s Houses – Astratigos – to sleep up to 16

 

Astratigos has a magic all of its own; it offers a taste of a true Cretan lifestyle that eludes the tourist hotspots. Astratigos is one of 5 villages on the Rodopos peninsula only 5kms from the town of Kolimbari and the main north coast highway from Chania. The countryside in this part of Crete is a walkers and bird watchers paradise; a visit in the spring is a must if you want to see the flowers in bloom.

We offer a unique opportunity to stay in this traditional Cretan village in beautiful villas and houses owned by a hospitable local Greek family. The owner, Papantonis, is a great character and he and his family will ensure that you have a perfect stay at their villas. They offer their guests one complimentary traditional meal during their stay and the opportunity to order home cooked food at reasonable prices from Monday to Thursday and to have this delivered straight to your villa.

A stay in Astratigos will provide the basis for a holiday of total peace and relaxation, nestling between Afrata and Rodopos, Astratigos is about 30kms west of Chania. Whilst there are no tavernas or shops in Astratigos, there are four tavernas in Afrata and three in Rodopos, each about 20 to 25 minutes walk from our accommodation.

The nearest beach is at Afrata where you will find a delightful little cove with a pebble beach and crystal clear water perfect for swimming and snorkelling. There is a small cantina on the beach serving good food and cold drinks. There are plenty of other beaches to be explored only a short drive away.

Villa Giorgios is a beautifully furnished and presented 2 storey property sleeping up to 5 in 1 x double (on the first floor), 2 x singles (one on the first floor and one on the ground floor) and on a sofa bed. A large balcony leading off the first floor landing is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the far reaching sea views with Chania to be seen in the distance. The villa has a well equipped kitchen, lounge/diner, 2 bathrooms, one on the ground floor and one on the first floor, private pool, garden and BBQ.

Villa Theodoros is a 100 + year old, renovated, single storey villa with thick stone walls and masses of atmosphere. The villa can sleep up to 4 in 1 x double, 1 x single and 1 x Cretan bed (with wooden slats, suitable for a child) in the lounge area. The villa has been furnished in a traditional style whilst providing most modern conveniences. The open plan lounge area leads to the kitchen/diner up a few steps. There is a hallway at the other end of the kitchen opening up to the bathroom and bedrooms. The villa shares a pool, garden and BBQ with Villa Olga.

Villa Olga is a new, two storey, stone villa that has been built and furnished in a traditional style to complement the other two villas. Villa Olga can sleep up to 7 in 3 bedrooms. The master bedroom is a double on the first floor with doors opening on to a spacious balcony offering fantastic sea views across to Chania. There are two twins, one on the ground floor and one on the first floor, each with their own balcony or terrace. A Cretan bed (with wooden slats) in the lounge area is suitable for a child. There is a well equipped kitchen area to one side of the open plan lounge/diner/kitchen on the ground floor, 2 bathrooms, one is on the ground floor and the other is on the first floor. The villa shares a pool, garden and bar b q with Villa Theodoros.
